ABOUT ME

Chris Wagner’s creativity comes from music, drawing and painting, as well as photography and the creation of object art and installations.

Subsequent to his education in music, he let the Slovakian artist Milena Johannesova educate him intensively in drawing. Following that, he refined his skills and knowledge by studying at several local and international artists studios, as well as at the school for advanced creative education in Basel, or Schule für Kunst und Design in Zürich. Despite his education he’s still a curious autodidact who works on his projects restlessly and keeps trying to explore his limits.

Today, photography, drawing and painting make up most of his work. Due to his diversity he is not always easy to grasp for people interested in art. According to himself, his creative construction sites are islands he likes to go back and forth from like a traveler, which reflects his life as a restless cosmopolitan with travels stretching as far as almost 100 countries.

His current home base is Basel, Switzerland. He has been featured here in several exhibitions, including an installation at “CAMP BASEL” during the Art Basel. Or “PROVOCATE” at Filter4, initiated by Fredy Hadorn (Lichtfeld Gallery) or the exhibition “CONFESSION SESSION”, at Kasko which was curated by Japanese artist Naoki Fukushima.

Internationally, he was present with a group exhibition in Amsterdam, Netherlands, followed by his “fragmented series” which he successfully presented on several continents, including the ART EDITION in Seoul, Korea, the CUTLOG in New York, USA and the ART COPENHAGEN in Denmark.

Numerous works are in the hands of private collectors.

Artist Statement:
As an observer the constancy of my work lies in its diversity. The link is interaction between people and how it is constructed.
Essentially, it’s about how we shape social coexistence and how interaction is established. It’s about threats, open spaces, proximity, distance, love, hate and our own impermanence.

ART EDUCATION - OPEN STUDIO

I teach life drawing at various locations in Basel on the basis of weekly courses or workshops. Beside that i regularly organize the open studio for life drawing.

Lifedrawing as a genre is almost as old as the act of painting itself. At aktzeichnen@basel artists of all skill levels are welcome to draw a live model in a variety of poses. This format offers you an opportunity to have a go at drawing the naked human form for the first time or to brush up on previously acquired skills in an untutored environment.

In addition aktzeichnen@basel is available as a inexpensive practice forum for those looking to develop their hand/eye co-ordination. Drawing in the company of other artists is a great way to power down and get creative with your hands.

We’re happy to answer any questions you may have, no matter whether you’re just starting out or want to build on your existing skills. You will be amazed how quickly your dexterity will improve.
